ISTA is growing. Grow with us!
The Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA) is a growing international institute for conducting frontier research in mathematics, computer science, and the life and physical sciences. We recruit passionate professionals from all over the world and from all fields who support our goals of excellence in research and science management. Located on a beautiful campus on the outskirts of Vienna, we offer numerous opportunities for personal growth in a stable working environment.

Your responsibilities
The research team of Professor Dr. Peter Jonas expertizes in the field of cellular neuroscience. Specifically, the group is interested in the structure and function of synapses, from the level of molecules up to the level of circuits. The group has two major research questions. First, we want to examine the mechanisms of synaptic transmission and plasticity at cortical synapses. Second, we want to analyze how synaptic properties shape higher-order computations in the brain. To address these questions, we use multiple-cell recording, subcellular patch-clamp techniques, Ca2+ imaging, cutting-edge light and electron microscopy, molecular biology, and computational modeling. We are looking for a Research Technician to support the group in these ambitious research projects with the following tasks:

• Contribution to the development of advanced electron microscopy techniques, such as high-pressure freezing and electron tomography
• Participation in immunohistochemistry and advanced imaging experiments, including confocal, two-photon, and superresolution microscopy
• Generation of molecular biology tools, such as adeno-associated viruses for circuit mapping
• Support for electrophysiology experiments, including preparation of solutions and brain slices
• General laboratory support and organization
• Mediating interactions with our Scientific Service Units (e.g., Lab Support Facility, Imaging and Optics Facility, Electron Microscopy Facility, Virus Services)
• Being part of an interactive group of students, postdocs, and technicians with diverse backgrounds

Your profile
• Training or degree in Life Sciences, or related fields
• Previous experience in at least one of the above techniques
• Work experience in a scientific environment is advantageous
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
• Interest in interdisciplinary methods development
• Team player with excellent communication skills
• Strong organizational skills, reliability, and a sense for responsibility
• Proactive personality with a solution-oriented approach
• Applications should include a letter of motivation, a CV, and contact information for at least 2 referees

Your benefits
