The IHS – Institute for Advanced Studies in Vienna is a leading non-university research institute that creates empirically based knowledge on significant economic and social challenges of our time. It delivers excellent applied basic research and impartial scientific policy advice, combining economic and social science perspectives. IHS is looking to fill the following position in the Research Group “Educational Structures and Educational Opportunities”

Student Assistant (f/m/d) part-time (17.5h/week)

The research group led by Dr. Mario Steiner is looking for competent reinforcement for two of the group\'s projects in particular - the scientific management of the Austrian Socio-Economic Panel and the evaluation of the school pilot for economic education. These projects focus on quantitative but also qualitative methods. Both projects contribute to basic research as well as to applied policy advise. As a student assistant, you will work closely with the project and research group leaders and provide support in particular through:

  • Literature research
  • Data collection and processing
  • Assisting with the writing of project reports, presentations and publications
  • Taking minutes of meetings and organizing events

About you

  • Ongoing economic or social science studies (preferably at the end of a Bachelor\'s- or beginning of a Master\'s degree)
  • Experience in applying quantitative (and qualitative) research methods and working with the statistical software R
  • Accuracy at work, especially with data and texts
  • Ability to present complex content in writing in German and English
  • Very good command of MS Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Efficient, independent, reliable and team-oriented way of working, eager to meet high expectations

The monthly salary for the advertised position is based on the FWF scheme for student assistants and amounts to € 1,180.90 gross for a 17.5-hour week, paid 14 times per year.

The position is to be filled on January 1, 2026. The initial contract period is 12 months, with the possi-bility of an extension (a maximum of 2 years in total).
