Background
Knowledge Management (KM) focuses on enabling staff to effectively create, organise, discover, analyse and use organisational knowledge through modern information management practices, business intelligence solutions and digital collaboration technologies. Working under the Strategy, Results and Learning (SRL) unit, the intern will in particular contribute to essential technological services and knowledge solutions across ICMPD.
Besides KM, the intern will contribute to various initiatives within SRL, as the unit also encompasses the Project Management Office (PMO) and Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL).
Objective
The primary objectives of this internship are to support:
- Business analysis of organisational processes to design appropriate knowledge solutions.
- Data storytelling and visualisation initiatives to improve evidence-based decision-making across the organisation. This includes the design and development of analytical reports and dashboards using SQL and Power BI.
- Migration of legacy file server content to structured SharePoint Online document libraries in line with appropriate metadata and governance standards.
- Other innovation and knowledge management tasks aligned with the intern’s profile.
Task and Responsibilities
The intern will be responsible for the following tasks, among others:
- Structuring document libraries using metadata, taxonomy and content types.
- Supporting ad-hoc data analysis tasks as required by KM.
- Analysing business requirements and designing knowledge solutions for data and document management.
- Supporting end-users during transition to structured SharePoint environments.
- Performing other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Learning Outcomes
Through this internship, the intern will have the opportunity to:
- Gain hands-on experience in SharePoint Online information architecture and metadata-driven document and information management.
- Develop practical experience in Power platform tools, especially Power Apps and Power BI.
- Gain exposure to enterprise data governance, knowledge management and digital transformation initiatives.
- Improve stakeholder communication and data storytelling capabilities within an international, multicultural environment.
Reporting Lines
The intern will report to: Knowledge Management Lead
The intern will receive regular feedback, mentoring and guidance throughout the internship to support their professional development.
Qualifications and Experience
- Recently completed or currently enrolled in a Masters programme in Knowledge Management, Information Systems, Library and Information Science, Digital Transformation, Business Analytics or a related field.
- Strong analytical skills and an interest in one or more of the following:
- Document management, metadata and information architecture
- Relational databases and low-code platforms (e.g. Microsoft Power Apps)
- Data visualisation and dashboard development (e.g. Microsoft Power BI)
- Data cleaning, transformation and structuring
- Familiarity with SharePoint Online or document management systems is an asset.
- Ability to translate data into clear visual narratives (data storytelling).
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
- Proficiency in English; knowledge of other languages is a plus.
Compensation:
ICMPD offers EUR 500,00 per month for a 40 hours per week internship position, including 1.5 leave days per month. Leave should be requested by email in advance with lead/supervisor. ICMPD will provide accident insurance for the duration of the internship. Travel expenses will not be reimbursed, and health insurance is the intern\'s responsibility.
PLEASE NOTE: An intern is not a staff member of ICMPD. An intern who is a non-citizen of the country in which the duty station is situated is responsible for obtaining any necessary visas and for complying with local laws regarding registration with the local authorities.
